Muppet Treasure Island is the fifth feature film of The Muppets.

Back cover summary

Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate tale takes on life of its own in the hands of the hilarious Muppets! Muppet Treasure Island - the Muppets' very first action-adventure - is the fun-packed, music-filled, swashbuckler the entire family will enjoy over and over.

It all begins with young Jim Hawkins inherits a long-lost map to a pirate's treasure. Jim hires the great ship Hispaniola where he meets the good Captain Smollet (Kermit the Frog) and the evil yet charming Long John Silver (Tim Curry). With adventure in their hearts and treasure chests of gold in their eyes, they set sail on the bounding main only to discover danger at every turn - including Benjamina Gunn (Miss Piggy), Treasure Island's worshipped lvoe goddess, who's dressed to kill!

Featuring a rollicking musical score by Academy Award - winning Hans Zimmer (The Lion King), Muppet Treasure Island is a real gem that "explodes with wit, weirdness and widly inventive fun" (New York Post)!

The 2002 DVD has about 49 chapters available on the Disc. The * and (continued) indicates that those chapters are only on the commentary feature and un-selectable in the scene selection for the main movie which leaves only 26 chapters select-able through the menus. The 2005 and the 2013 releases have 26 chapters total as they don't have the hidden treasure video clips in those discs especially the blu-ray.

Menu jump fixes and mods

PGCEdit MTI Commentary Menu edit

The menu buttons for the movie's commentary menu are edited.

Screenshot (227)

After selecting the off button on the commentary menu, it will take you to the black screen menu then the bonus features menu. Another concern for this is that the off button is the way back to the menu and the treasure chest button to there was removed which the off button is supposed to redirect users to the movie. But it can be fixed by using this patch for VSTM 1 Menu 14 for the 2002 DVD release of the film. If you have PGC Edit and the first DVD release, open the copied DVD folder up go to menu 14 in the first VSTM menu section below the VMGM menus and 3 titles, copy this code, right click "Menu Buttons", click edit, hover over the edit drop menu and paste it using "Paste Whole Menu":

MTI Commentary Menu mod preview

If you would like to make the buttons of the color from red to turqouise, go to the 6th color that is red and displays "5" when hovered over. Click on that and change the Red, Green and Blue values from 187, 0, 0 to 0, 252, 254 or you can simply paste this code with the paste all button including the submenu below the PGC:

{#0000BA} #BB0000 #000000 #FEFEFE #09E200 #00fcfe #FFFF00 #09E200 #7D7D7D #E1E1E1 #7B0100 #007E00 #00007B #DC00FE #DD7E00 #EBEB87

With that modification to the subpicture's color table, you will get a celeste button coloring as a result for this:

To make them have the same contrast/opacity values as the one for other menus, return or go to the edit button while working on the menu buttons and go to "Edit Color Schemes". On that menu, change the contrast to 8 in pattern, 5 in both Emphasis 1 & 2. Do the same with the other audio commentary still menu below the one where the viewer gets directed to. The results from this should look exactly like this:

Another way of that is to copy the schemes from one of the menus other than the one's that lead to the commentary (e.g. Main Menu or Bonus Features) to the commentary menus by going to "Menu Buttons" on the right click drop down list and copying the color schemes on the edit menu for the VSTM menu. Once you copied them, go to the 2 commentary menus and paste the schemes you've copied from the other menus in the edit menu dialog.

There is a line that will redirect the viewer back to the audio commentary menu once the movie with that audio turned on is finished. However, this is meant to be redirected back to the main menu like most other videos do. To do that, select the 4th line in the Angle Menu, double click it and change the PGC number jump link from 14 to 4 or 5 in the number box in "Jump to PGC <VSTMNumber> (1-32767) in the same domain" and change the button number to 2 or 4.

To enable support for subtitles for the 2nd title where the video doesn't use, copy this line and paste it below "(SetSTN) Set Audio stream = 1" using the button "paste after":

[61 00 00 06 00 82 00 00] 4 Set gprm(6) =(mov) sprm(2:Sub-picture stream number)

2002 DVD Audio Commentary

The audio commentary follows with an intro where Gonzo and Rizzo will talk through the entire film along with the director "Brain Henson" to make jokes and talk about the stuff for behind the scenes designation. With the prohibited user options enabled in the commentary title movie duplicate of the film on the 2002 DVD release, the subtitles are ignored and can't be turned on and the reverse chapter search is unavailable and will prevent the user with the remote to go back one chapter using the backward option. These options are available in other DVD features except for the subtitles. On certain chapters, the cell commands will call the dummy 0 second VMGM menus and set parameters to make it look like Gonzo or Rizzo paused the movie that will transit them to another disc title of the DVD containing Hidden Treasure behind the scenes video clips. After any one of these have been passed, the movie will resume at the point where another chapter was made to make a restoration point with the gprm commands in place of the PGC. The commands of that title follow this code:

Trivia

  • The Disney DVD logo is somehow skipped whenever it enters the commentary.
  • The 2002 DVD menu buttons were re-colored red for the 2005 DVD release and the scene where Gonzo and Rizzo hop around has also been deleted in the second dvd release. The menus that were in 16:9 format were cropped to 4:3. The first DVD release that was released 3 years before the 2005 re-release was later made out of print as well as the VHS tapes that were discontinued in 2006.
  • There is an unused captions menu left-over in the American 2002 DVD release of Muppet Treasure Island since the language in this release is only english. The color lookup tables to the buttons does not exist and the buttons are stretched on the pan and scan DVD player setting. It can be navigated in the unreferenced section of the DVD through a software such as DVDShrink. The menu has a skull button that would lead back to the setup menu. The captions menu for that was used in the international 2002 DVD releases.
  • The treasure button used to return to the special features menu from the Audio Commentary menu (between the on and off buttons) was left unused.
  • The menus for the 2002 DVD was presented in 16:9 widescreen for TVs with widescreen support and the main menu has 60 frames per second when de-interlaced. The menus use the HOR+ field of view scaling making the menus crop to 4:3 with "Pan & Scan" and "Letterbox" options made in the DVD player preference menu of which would best fit the screen.
  • The features from the 2002 DVD release were not carried to the 2005 DVD due to disc capacity to save enough for other stuff like trailers and such, but they were made available for the 2013 blu-ray release along with other interesting features such as "Let the Good Shine Out" that comes from the Muppet Sing Along video that was released on VHS in 1996. The intro and the hidden treasure clips were excluded from this blu-ray release.
