Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, one of cinema's all-time more divisive contributions, was the very first piece of content in the Star Wars franchise to officially appear on DVD, almost two and a half years after its original theatrical release. The two-disc set features a generous helping of special features, and after inserting the first disc, one of three different menu schematics is loaded, a practice that would also be used on the original DVDs of Episodes II-VI.

There are two ways to access an outtake reel for this film, located on disc 1.
- Method 1: On the Options menu, press "10+" and "1," then "enter." Repeat this procedure with the numbers "3" and "8" to see the outtakes. The numeric code is a reference to THX 1138, George Lucas' first feature film.
- Method 2: Go to Chapter 1 and press "repeat" twice. This should get you to the outtakes.

Trivia[]
- The character clips on each Disc 1 menu mostly follow the same pattern: Queen Amidala and Anakin, followed by separate shots of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, and then two clips from the climactic lightsaber duel. However, in-between Maul's two appearances, each planet has a different set of clips:
- Naboo: R2-D2, Jar Jar Binks, Boss Nass
- Tatooine: C-3P0, Shimi Skywalker, Watto
- Coruscant: Yoda, Mace Windu, Chancellor Valorum
